Confirmed: Harrah’s Announces 16-Week Gap of the Main Event Final Table.

May 2, 2008

Press Conference Confirms Main Event Will Be Delayed.

In a story that had been nothing but speculation for the past several weeks, Harrah’s finally confirmed earlier today that the WSOP Main Event final table will indeed be delayed until November, 2008. USA Today initially broke the story yesterday, but it had not been announced formally by Harrah’s and ESPN.

WSOP tournament director Jeffrey Pollack believes that “the 16-week gap between the ‘end’ of this summer’s WSOP and the main event’s conclusion in November will give the players an ‘unprecedented opportunity to capture the world’s attention’ with the help of ESPN and the world’s media outlets.”

This will hopefully boost ratings big-time for not just ESPN and the WSOP, but also for poker in general.  Poker’s huge boost in popularity has nearly reached its peak within the last year or two, so it should be interesting to see what this type of dramatic buzz leading up to the live taping (of the Main Event) will do for poker in general.

The live ESPN broadcast will take place on November 9th, 2008 - with the winner to be decided most likely in the twilight hours of November 11th, 2008.
