U.S. Senator Jon Kyl Wants UIGEA Put In Effect NOW.
May 1, 2008
Arizona Senator Losing Patience w/ UIGEA Guidelines.
Senator Jon Kyl, a Republican serving the state of Arizona, has stated that the rules for the UIGEA that would put the bill into action should have already been put in place. Kyl is one of the senators who helped push the bill through Congress and was one of the first lawmakers to attempt to ban online gambling. Kyl stated that since the law was passed in 2006 it should have already been enforced. Both the United States Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve have not begun to enforce the law since the 2006 passing and Kyl is losing his patience.
Majorwager.com ran a story that quoted Kyl as saying “The longer it goes the less certainty there is.” Kyl also stated that there are people who are breaking the law and not being punished. “The people…need to know that they’re not going to be able to get away with it.” Kyl also stated that the delay in enforcing the UIGEA has prompted the House of Representatives to put a “moratorium” on the regulations in hopes that they would be passed.
The House of Representatives members Kyl is referring to are Barney Frank and Ron Paul. The bill the two Representatives want to pass would block the US Treasury and Federal Reserve from completing the criteria the UIGEA calls for. Kyl went on to say in the story that he is not worried about the UIGEA being done away with because of the House of Representatives legislation they are trying to pass.
