POTRIPPER’s Dad aka Phil Tom WINS 2008 WSOP Event #11!

June 9, 2008

Father of Scott Tom, Alleged AP Superuser “Potripper,” Wins Event #11!

Something ABSOLUTE-ly surreal and crazy happened today during Event #11 of the 2008 World Series of Poker.

And when I say crazy, I really mean “ZOMG LOL WTF are you serious?” kind of crazy….

Scott Tom, the father of the man who was behind the Absolute Poker superuser account (promptly named “Potripper“), took down a tough field at the final table of the $4,700 No Limit Hold Em Shootout Event #11.

He went heads up against Full Tilt Horse Poker pro Greg “FBT” Mueller and pulled out a surprising win to earn himself a $477k payday and his first gold bracelet.

However, as news of this has broken at a few forums and media outlets, it looks as though the real juiciness behind this story revolves around Phil Tom’s relationship to Scott Tom, who 2+2 has already snuffed out as being the real person behind the computer when the POTRIPPER account was blatantly cheating and seeing hole cards at Absolute Poker.

This is an excerpt regarding the Tom family from the Absolute Detectives website:

“AP was started by Scott Tom and a few Ivy league friends back in 2003. Phil Tom and the other fathers of these kids bankrolled the venture, and Absolute Poker was born. Phil Tom is Scott Tom’s FATHER, not his brother. The IP address that this ‘other’ account was logged in from was traced to the home cable modem of Scott Tom, CEO of Absolute poker. scott@RivieraLtd.com is apparently the CEO, and is also the owner of account POTRIPPER. Scott Tom is also apparently the owner of the STEAMROLLER account.”
