PokerStars Sunday Million -Quick- Recap For May 11th, 2008.

May 12, 2008

PKerBL Wins Heads-Up Match Against AQUA RAIDER.

Play in the Sunday Million today! This Sunday’s PokerStars Sunday Million attracted 6,856 entrants, shattering the $1M prizepool by over $300,000!

The largest poker tournament on the planet also drew some of online poker’s best players, with all of them focusing on one thing: the $193K first place prize!

This week’s Sunday Million at PokerStars lasted a shade under 12 hours, with the final table being occupied by some top-ranked online players.

9-handed play soon turned into heads-up play, with ‘PKerBL‘ holding a huge 10-to-1 chip advantage over his opponent, ‘AQUA RAIDER.’ His lead would prove to be unsurmountable, and AQUA RAIDER would go out in a strong second place. Since I wasn’t watching first-hand towards the end, I’m not too sure a chop was arranged. If there wasn’t, PKerBL will have taken home a nice first-place prize of $193k!

Here is a quick breakdown of the final 9 and payout structure:

1) PKerBL - $193,339.20

2) AQUA RAIDER - $ 97,355.20

3) Snitch24 - $68,560

4) FeFranco - $54,848

5) OllowainTim - $41,136

6) jp4est - $30,166.40

7) roniirani - $21,253.60

8) Talgamer13 - $12,340.80

9) HelmetSky - $8,090.08

In all, the $535 buy-in event brought in 512 entrants, all vying for the title of FTOPS champion for this No Limit Hold Em Shootout tournament.

-Jornx- Wins $109 Rebuy For FTOPS Event #7 Title.

May 11, 2008

$102k Payday For Jornx; Erick Lindgren Goes Deep.

The 7th event of this season’s FTOPS has been run and won. The event provided great value for the players with over 550k in the prize pool for only a $109 buy-in. The rebuy + add-on event initially had a guaranteed prize pool of 500k, but this figure was well and truly exceeded with 2675 rebuys and 1041 add-ons.

Player “jornx” from the Netherlands won the event and pocketed over 102k for his efforts. The final hand of the day was a great end to the tournament. Jornx was all in against his opponent pre-flop with AJ vs A3 suited. Both players flopped a pair of aces with player “sebop” also flopping a flush draw. Jornx’s hand held up and he took the event down. Jornx was too strong for his opponent during the heads up play and continually outplayed his opponent, definitely earning his well-deserved win.

Erick Lindgren was the best of the Full Tilt pros finishing in 13th place for $4532.14. Lindgren is continuing his good form in FTOPS after also cashing in the event #4 shootout.

The $200+$16 Stud H/L MTT drew a solid crowd of 645 entrants, with 80 people making the money.

Full Tilt Poker Pro Berry Johnston would end up going out in 4th place in this event, and it would be the first FTOPS that would feature a Full Tilt Pro at the final table this week. 3-handed play was long-winded, and when it finally got heads-up, ‘voguepergola’ would end up taking down the title and $27,735 for his efforts!

Poker Player Mom Attempting To Make Her Way to the WSOP Main Event.

May 5, 2008

WSOP Steps Banner at PokerStars.Cathy Roberts, a long-time supporter and reader here at Poker Ownage, has decided to step up and fight for a trip to the World Series of Poker. Cathy told us this afternoon that believes that this is the year for women at the WSOP, and she’s going to be there.
Cathy, who is the editor-in-chief of one of the most well known poker news websites online - and known on as Lady4Flush on most poker sites, has decided to enter the PokerStars Step Circuit fighting her way up from the first step, to the sixth, and then HOPEFULLY, on her way to the World Series of Poker from there!
“I’m not against a bit of flirting, fighting, scratching, whatever it takes, to get there, it’s going to be a blast!” Cathy told Poker Ownage staff.
The Steps Sit & Go satellite tournaments are available for entry for just $7.50. They’re also available with FPP points, if you decide to go the points route, you may buy in to a Step one tournament for only 500 FPP’s. World Series hopefuls finishing in the top two places will advance to step three.
Players that make it all the way and play in Step six have a shot at not only the World Series, but some hefty cash prizes as well if you finish in the top 6.Players that don’t finish 1st or second in one of the steps, can still win another ticket to retry that same PokerStars Sit n Go step.
“The play,” said Roberts, “definitely improves in the later steps - the first step is a doosey for sure. If I had backers, and no budget, I’d probably begin at step three. Since I’m a mom, with real bills, I’m braving my way at step one.”
Roberts wasn’t always at step one however, on her first day in the steps circuit, she plowed through all the steps, winning a smooth grand in the sixth and final steps.
“It’s kind of of a mixed victory” Roberts recalled, “On the one hand, what a long way to come! On the other, I was so close!”
Roberts played one Multi Table tournament for the World Series of Poker last year on Absolute Poker, she made it to third place, taking home yet another cash win, and no WSOP ticket.  She and a multitude of players have also used a PokerStars marketing code to earn a nice bonus on top of what they can make at the super soft sit and go tables on the site!
*on a sidenote, I really hope Cathy can make it the WSOP Main Event via these Steps Sit-and-Go’s…they seem to be the best and most “financially-sound” choice when you have a family, bills, and a mortgage. Cathy, you’ve been running super-hot lately, so I’m really thinking this is gonna be your year! Good luck again chica.
