2008 LAPT San Jose Won By Valdemar Kwassyer.
May 25, 2008
LAPT Has Great Success in Costa Rican Stop.
The Latin American Poker Tour made its way to Costa Rica this past week, attracting 398 players for the £2,500 buy-in event.
The tournament was played in San Jose at the Cariari Country Club, and drew a record prizepool of just over $965,000.
The 3-day event saw some of the best international poker players in attendance, including 45 native Costa Ricans.
In the end though, it was PokerStars Qualifier Valdemar Kwassyer who would take down first place and nearly $275,000 USD, with Max Steinberg taking home a very-nice $144,773 for his runner-up performance.
“We were expecting a robust field of players full of enthusiasm, but having nearly 400 players turn up is truly overwhelming. Costa Rica is a recognized leader of poker in Central America . We have very skilled players with a great deal of experience, and that has certainly been demonstrated here in San José,” said LAPT President Glenn Cademartori.
LAPT San Jose Final Results:
1. Valdemar Kwaysser -$274,103
2. Max Steinberg - $144,773
3. Steven Silverman - $106,167
4. Alex Soderland - $77,212
5. Alec Torelli – 57,909
6. Pawel Sanojca -$38,606
7. Ashton Griffin - $28,955
8. Joe Ebanks - $19,303
9. Steven Thompson - $14,477
-Halfrek- Makes FTOPS History With 2 Milestone Wins.
May 19, 2008
Online Player “Halfrek” Wins Two FTOPS VIII Events.
Online poker player “Halfrek” has had a really great week. Not only did “Halfrek” win one FTOPS event last week - but he also managed to win another FTOPS event this past Sunday. It is believed that this is the first time that a player has won more than one event in the same FTOPS series. Both events were high buy-ins and will most definitely make a huge difference in “Halfrek’s” life, especially financially!
The first event “Halfrek” won was Event #11 which had 1,593 players and a buy-in of $1,000 + $60. The guaranteed prize pool was $1,500,000 but due to the amount of players that bought in the prize pool rose to $1,593,000. “Halfrek” took home $342,495.00 for his first place finish.
The second event “Halfrek” won was event #21 which took place on Sunday. 899 players entered the event with a buy-in of $2,500 + 120. The guaranteed prize pool was supposed to be $1.5 million but with the large amount of players entered the prize pool raised almost $1million to a whooping $2,247,500. “Halfrek” took home $516,925.00 for his first place finish which made his prize total for the week almost $900,000, an amazing payday for anyone, much less a lesser known online player.
I am sure we will be hearing more about “Halfrek” in the very near future, especially on the online poker tournament scene.

PokerStars Sunday Million -Quick- Recap For May 11th, 2008.
May 12, 2008
PKerBL Wins Heads-Up Match Against AQUA RAIDER.
This Sunday’s PokerStars Sunday Million attracted 6,856 entrants, shattering the $1M prizepool by over $300,000!
The largest poker tournament on the planet also drew some of online poker’s best players, with all of them focusing on one thing: the $193K first place prize!
This week’s Sunday Million at PokerStars lasted a shade under 12 hours, with the final table being occupied by some top-ranked online players.
9-handed play soon turned into heads-up play, with ‘PKerBL‘ holding a huge 10-to-1 chip advantage over his opponent, ‘AQUA RAIDER.’ His lead would prove to be unsurmountable, and AQUA RAIDER would go out in a strong second place. Since I wasn’t watching first-hand towards the end, I’m not too sure a chop was arranged. If there wasn’t, PKerBL will have taken home a nice first-place prize of $193k!
Here is a quick breakdown of the final 9 and payout structure:
1) PKerBL - $193,339.20
2) AQUA RAIDER - $ 97,355.20
3) Snitch24 - $68,560
4) FeFranco - $54,848
5) OllowainTim - $41,136
6) jp4est - $30,166.40
7) roniirani - $21,253.60
Talgamer13 - $12,340.80
9) HelmetSky - $8,090.08
-GoToChurch- Wins FTOPS VIII Event #8 and $51,000.
May 11, 2008
Event #8 NLHE Shootout Event Yields $256,000 Prizepool.
Event #8 of the FTOPS VIII series over at Full Tilt Poker attracted some of online poker’s best players to battle it out for the $50k+ first place prize. In all, the $535 buy-in event brought in 512 entrants, all vying for the title of FTOPS champion for this No Limit Hold Em Shootout tournament.
Play would last for over 9 hours before a champion was crowned. That particular champion would be a player by the name of “GoToChurch,” who clawed and battled his way to heads-up action against “Boondy.” In the end, ‘GoToChurch’ would beat his opponent for the FTOPS Event #8 championship, winning $51,200 for his efforts and a special FTOPS gold avatar and jersey!
Special shout-outs to “apestyles,” who made a deep run at the final table, finishing in 13th place.

-Jornx- Wins $109 Rebuy For FTOPS Event #7 Title.
May 11, 2008
$102k Payday For Jornx; Erick Lindgren Goes Deep.
The 7th event of this season’s FTOPS has been run and won. The event provided great value for the players with over 550k in the prize pool for only a $109 buy-in. The rebuy + add-on event initially had a guaranteed prize pool of 500k, but this figure was well and truly exceeded with 2675 rebuys and 1041 add-ons.
Player “jornx” from the Netherlands won the event and pocketed over 102k for his efforts. The final hand of the day was a great end to the tournament. Jornx was all in against his opponent pre-flop with AJ vs A3 suited. Both players flopped a pair of aces with player “sebop” also flopping a flush draw. Jornx’s hand held up and he took the event down. Jornx was too strong for his opponent during the heads up play and continually outplayed his opponent, definitely earning his well-deserved win.
Erick Lindgren was the best of the Full Tilt pros finishing in 13th place for $4532.14. Lindgren is continuing his good form in FTOPS after also cashing in the event #4 shootout.

-mmmadd- Wins FTOPS Pot-Limit Omaha Event #6 and $68k.
May 11, 2008
Scott Fischman, Nordberg, and SamENole Make Deep Runs.
FTOPS VIII Event #6 is in the books tonight. The $500+$35 PLO event drew 637 people and an impressive prizepool of $318,500. 84 places would end up being paid out in all, and some very threatening online poker players made some VERY deep runs in this tournament.
Among those included Scott Fischman and ‘Nordberg’ - both Full Tilt Pros - who went out in 12th and 13th, respectively. Online pro ‘SamENole’ made the final table, but would unfortunately make a quick exit in 8th place.
The eventual winner would be ‘mmmadd,’ who beat out ’scatterbrain123′ heads up for the title and the $68k+ first place prize.

-Voguepergola- Takes Down Event #5 of FTOPS VIII.
May 10, 2008
THAY3R Bubbles 2 FTOPS Events In One Night!
As previously mentioned, online poker whiz ‘THAY3R‘ bubbled Event #4 in 13th - then proceeded to bubble Event #5 in 11th - OUCH! His finish didn’t mean much to the final 8 players that made up the final table of Event #5 of the FTOPS VIII series. The $200+$16 Stud H/L MTT drew a solid crowd of 645 entrants, with 80 people making the money.
Full Tilt Poker Pro Berry Johnston would end up going out in 4th place in this event, and it would be the first FTOPS that would feature a Full Tilt Pro at the final table this week. 3-handed play was long-winded, and when it finally got heads-up, ‘voguepergola’ would end up taking down the title and $27,735 for his efforts!

-EMSBas- Wins FTOPS VIII Event #4 and $48k!
May 10, 2008
$215,200 Prizepool in FTOPS VIII Event #4 PLHE.
Full Tilt Poker pro Marco Traniello was the final table host at Event #4 this past evening, commentating during the entire final table of the Pot Limit Hold Em FTOPS tourney.
The guaranteed prizepool was surpassed by $15k+, and in all 1,076 players would enter. Only 108 places were paid, and the final table bubble included famed online poker player ‘THAY3R‘ - who unfortunately went out in 13th on an unfortunate beat.
In the end, it would be ‘EMSBas‘ winning the MTT, beating his opponent ‘StellarCards‘ heads up for $48,420 and of course the title of FTOPS Champion!
