ePassporte Shutting Down to U.S. Online Poker Players?

A well-known poster and poker player at 2+2 has apparently gotten word from an unidentified source that popular U.S. e-wallet ePassporte has shut its doors down to U.S. poker players as of 1:00 PM PDT today!

Check out the 2+2 thread everyone is talking about right now.

At first, it seemed like maybe it could be just another rumor, and that the reason ePassporte hasn’t been working the past few weeks was because of technical reasons. However, as I’ve checked into my own poker accounts, it looks as if popular U.S. gaming sites Cake Poker, Full Tilt Poker, and PokerStars have either taken off the ePass option on their Cashier screen, or they have temporarily disabled deposits from the major e-wallet.

I don’t know what to make of this as of yet - as the story has been talked about across many popular poker forums and community boards today. All I can say is that I truly hope this isn’t the prelude to yet another Neteller debacle.

As many of you know, Neteller had to freeze thousands of accounts while they were being investigated by the U.S. government a few years ago. That incident caused an extreme uproar in the poker community, so it is unclear whether this ePassporte situation will escalate into the same category.

I’ll try and keep everyone updated as much as possible, and send out a few more emails to some of the other big-time U.S.-friendly poker rooms. Cross your fingers!
