Improve Your Texas Holdem Skills
January 29, 2008
If you’re on the lookout for a quality website that can actually help you get better at online poker, you should look into MyPokerCorner.com. This poker website is unique in the way it presents information. When you first visit it, it has a poker blog feel to it, but you quickly realize that it’s much more than that.
MyPokerCorner.com takes pride in offering quality poker articles that focus on various Texas Hold’em themes, and for all Hold’em variations. There’s information for beginners as well as seasoned players. From basic poker information to original poker strategy articles, everyone can find something worthwhile at MyPokerCorner.com.
While the main objective of the site is to coach poker players about poker strategy, the site has grown to provide broader content such as quality poker room reviews, poker tools like pot odd calculators, poker videos, a poker store, a comprehensive poker directory, a list of upcoming poker freerolls, and more great info.
The main page updates regularly, where new content is introduced as old content makes its way down the page to eventually be archived. This is the blog feel of the site I was referring to. I actually like because you always know what’s new and you get to decide if a particular topic is worth your time simply by reading its introduction text. To top it off, MyPokerCorner.com offers a RSS news feed so you can stay in touch with the new content without actually having to visit the site every time. There are just no headaches with MyPokerCorner.com. The site is very straightforward and well structured. The color scheme is original and pleasant to browse and read on.
MyPokerCorner.com has partnered with some very popular poker websites such as PokerListings.com. That means that in addition to writing their own poker articles, other popular poker websites also contribute to your poker education by writing unique and original poker content for the site. This is the kind of partnership that more webmasters should establish as it provides huge benefits to the readers.
If you’re new to poker and are looking to learn more about the game, or if you’ve been playing for years, MyPokerCorner.com has something for you. If Texas Holdem is your game, pay them a visit. It’s worth your time!
The Roof - The Roof - The Roof Is On FIRE!
January 27, 2008
….[the Monte Carlo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada] don’t need no water, let the mother — errrr, ok….you get the point, right? Heh.
Well, at least in this case, water was used properly to put out the flames that somehow managed to engulf a portion of the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas early Friday morning. Clark County firefighters responded to the blaze immediately once it was reported around 11 am on January 25th, 2008, and was promptly put out. The fire did cause a lot of damage to a decent-sized portion of the roof of the Monte Carlo, but thankfully no injuries were reported. All 3,000 of the hotel’s guests were evacuated and taken out before fire crews put out the flames.
The fire was the 2nd worst in Las Vegas history. As many people still remember, the 1980 fire at the MGM Grand caused 87 deaths and was responsible for 800 injuries. At the time, it was also the 2nd worst fire in U.S. history. At least this time around, fire department officials were able to contain the blaze before any major damage was caused. It’s unclear at the moment how much the fire will cost the Monte Carlo, especially given the fact that the flames engulfed many of the top penthouse and luxury suites that the hotel had just put in to that area of the property in 1996.
NBC’s 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship Invitee List Completed
January 25, 2008
The field will be capped at 64 players, and with a buyin of $20,000, players will be battling it out for the $500,000 first-place prize. The event will begin on February 28th, 2008, and will last 3 days. The NBC telecast is yet to be decided.
The completed list includes an eclectic mix of poker players, many of whom have honed their skills in live games or in the online world. Many of the most recent WSOP Main Event champions have received invites (minus Carlos Mortenson), as have some of the most feared online poker players in the world (ie Brian ’sbrugby’ Townsend and Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan). Four special qualifiers will also be announced before the event begins.
The full list of invitees for the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship are included on the next page:
Finland Proposes State-Run Online Poker Room
January 25, 2008
Finland’s Minister of Culture and Sport, Stefan Wallin, told one of the country’s most major newspapers earlier this week that he is fully backing a proposal that would allow for a state-run online poker room.
The idea to allow a state-run online gambling site would deter millions of dollars from going into large, international gambling conglomerates and into the country’s government instead. The money would then allow for additional government spending and other state-sponsored programs. PokerNews wrote that “any such state-run room would likely fall under the auspices of one of two state-run operations currently overseeing similar matters, either the state gaming monopoly, Veikkaus Oy, or the Finnish Slot Machine Association, Raha-automaattiyhdistys (RAY). ”
With online gambling on the rise, Finland is hoping to capitalize on a big share of the local gaming community. However, critics of the plan have been quick to point out the flaws in the bill. Perhaps the most important being that a room being run by the country itself would only make it easier for gamblers to get addicted, mainly because a wider range of deposit options would be available and it would curb citizens to stay in their own locale rather than going to any other online gaming websites.
It’s tough to determine if the idea will merely stay at that – just an idea….
