Johnny Chan aka

April 6, 2007

And for once it doesn’t involve poker or Jamie Gold! In fact, in news broken by PokerPages, it looks as if Chan is going to be lending his expertise in his field to an even bigger project — Poker Hotels….yea, what??? Anyways, the project itself has taken almost 2 years to come to light, and will involve Chan and a team of strong hotel executives putting together and building hotels that cater specifically to poker players. The names of the hotels will ironically be called “Fifth Street Hotels,” and will more than likely be built in locations all around the world. It should be an interesting story to follow once construction actually starts. Oh yea, all I REALLY wanna know is that if I book a room there can I pull a “Captain Tom” on any woman I bring back to my room???

Doyle Brunson NOT Arrested At The LAPC Earlier In The Week….

April 6, 2007

It has been confirmed that Doyle Brunson was indeed NOT arrested earlier in the week while attending the LAPC. Rumors spread faster than herpes as several huge poker media outlets got wind of the story. In fact, thousands of poker players and enthusiasts were glued to sites like PokerNews and PokerPages wondering if poker’s godfather was really being taken in by the Feds (remember, his name is synonomous with online poker site Doyle’s Room — and he was involved in a big WPT scandal last year). Well, after a few hours and a lot of mixed confusion in LA, it was actually confirmed that Doyle injured himself while in the bathroom and was taken away to the hospital. Thank God he’s still alive and ticking….

2006 Main Event Champion Jamie Gold FINALLY Settles $6M Dispute With Former Business Partner.

April 6, 2007

In news that was reported by the AP a few days ago, it looks as though Jamie Gold can finally put back his dramatic saga with Jonathan Leyser behind him. The former talent agent, who steamrolled the WSOP’s Main Event last year en route to his $12M victory, has agreed to terms with Leyser over the remaining $6M that had been frozen by a judge shortly after his win. The story, which had Gold reportedly agreeing to give 50% of any winnings to Leyser if he has brought in celebrity clients to the WSOP on behalf of him and Bodog, caused a media stir when the eventual champion (Gold) refused to pay up after taking home the huge 8-figure payday. The exact amount over how much Gold gave up to isn’t know at the moment — but we can all guess it was a pretty penny for sure. Now if we can just get rid of Gold out of our minds and souls forever, I think the poker world will be able to rest a little better at night.

Brandi Hawbaker (Rose) and Bryan Micon: A Poetic Love Story or More Bullshit?

April 6, 2007

Who cares? LOL. With all the shenanigans going on lately over at NWP and Brandi Hawbaker, it really just makes for great entertainment. Just a few weeks ago, I was reporting to you about amateur poker golddigger Brandi Hawbaker’s antics regarding her relationships with poker pros Tom Franklin and Marc “newhizzle” Newhouse. And after countless “he said, she said” banter involving old man penises on the back and self-inflicted wrist wounds and busted online bankrolls, I can officially say that shit has really hit the fan now. And her psychotic hang-ups are your gain! Ship it!

Instead of giving you a another long-winded story, I’ll try and give a very brief synopsis of the new happenings of Brandi — as well as its relation to self-proclaimed “King of all Degenerates” Bryan Micon [aka owner of NeverWinPoker.com].

Basically, Brandi is a golddigging whore with glass-cutting nipples…she apparently gets off on Bryan Micon and his enormous Jewish member…and Micon would love to hit it — except he’s married…regardless, NUDE pics of Brandi are posted and her countless posts of her lust for Micon continue…and well, the WHOLE poker world gets entertained yet again at the expense of this poor, fucked up female version of Dutch Boyd. So WTF are you waiting for? Check the thread below and go str8 to NWP to see what I’m talking about and MORE…and yes, the pics are prob not suitable for work — you have been warned!

NBC Announces 3rd Annual National Heads Up Poker Championship!

April 6, 2007

Poker’s TV boom has not hit its peak — and I don’t think it will for quite some time. The WSOP, the WPT, and even Mansion’s Poker Dome Challenge have been ratings hits; so it was only inevitable that NBC bring back the National Heads Up Poker Championship back to it’s lineup. The event, which will be broadcast on the network for the 3rd year in a row, will showcase the world’s best 64 players, including the event’s past champions, Phil Hellmuth and Ted Forrest. It has also been a HUGE hit in the ratings department! Filming of the event will go forward in March, with the actual air date to hit NBC some time in April or May of this year. Stay tuned for more on this event.

John Hennigan

April 6, 2007

John “Johnny World” Hennigan took down a huge field in the $10,000 Borgata Winter Poker Open MAIN EVENT! The poker great, also known for his WSOP and WPT success, battled through a difficult final table, where he would eventually get it heads up versus Chuck Kelley. And…well, I think I’ll let Cardplayer take it from here:

“Kelley raises to $550,000 and Hennigan makes the call. The flop comes 7spade3diamond3spade and Hennigan checks. Kelley bets $700,000 and Hennigan makes the call. The turn is the Aheart and Hennigan checks. Kelley bets $700,000 again and Hennigan again calls. Kelley accidentally exposes his hand of Qheart7heart. The hand is declared live and the river is the 3heart. Hennigan moves all in and Kelley makes the call. Hennigan shows the Aclub5heart for a better full house and wins the pot.

Chuck Kelley finishes the tournament in 2nd place and earns $849,082.

John Hennigan wins the Borgata Winter Open, an entry into the WPT Championship and $1,606,223.”

Bryan Sumner Defeats Daniel Negreanu At The 2007 World Poker Open!

April 6, 2007

Daniel Negreanu has been on fire as of late. A string of huge final tables on the WSOP Circuit Series and WPT, D.N. found himself in familiar territory once again — this time at the 2007 World Poker Open. The event drew in 294 players and had a TV final table that consisted of poker upstarts Kido Pham and JC Tran, who have both either gone deep or won events at the WSOP or WPT. Pham and Tran would end up bowing out earlier than expected, with the othr players also making exits. This left Sumner and Negreanu HU for the title and $900k+ first place prize. Then, after only 4 hands, the champion would be crowned…

From Cardplayer:

“Daniel Negreanu has the button and pushes all in with Aspade3diamond while Sumner calls with 8club8diamond. The board comes the 8heart5heart4club3clubQspade giving Bryan Sumner the championship and the $25,000 WPT Championship seat.

Daniel Negreanu finishes in 2nd place for $502,691. “

U.S. Loses Battle With The WTO Regarding Online Gambling.

April 6, 2007

Wow, it seems like our country does actually lose sometimes. The World Trade Organization (WTO) won a 4-year old legal battle brought upon by the United States regarding online gambling restrictions in Antigua and Barbados. The case may or may not have an effect on the state of online poker in general, but as of right now most people see this as a very nice win for internet gaming. If you would like to read the FULL STORY regarding this decision you can just click on the hyperlink below. WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Jamie Gold Fired By Bodog….Poker Players Heard Laughing ‘Round The World!

April 6, 2007

Jamie Gold, the more fast-forward version of Robert Varkonyi in today’s poker world, has been released by Bodog. It looks as if Jamie, who gained obv fame by his 2006 Main Event thrashing of the final table and the $12M purse that came about from it, is now looking for other work — as Bodog released an official statement regarding the pink slip Mr. Gold received today:

“In light of our decision to cease all offline marketing initiatives in the U.S., and instead refocus our efforts on growing our entertainment brand in Europe and Asia, Bodog has ended our business relationship with Jamie Gold. Bodog has enjoyed our association with Mr. Gold and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

In funnier news that’s related to this, Bodog has decided to keep Josh Arieh, Evelyn Ng, and David Williams on as Team Bodog members.
