Barney Frank Introduces The “Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007.”

April 27, 2007

A new bill set forward by Democrat Barney Frank aims to bring back online poker!

Barney Frank, the Democratic Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, introduced a new bill to Congress earlier in the week that would repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) passed last November. The “Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007″ would allow for an exemption to the original ban on online gambling for properly licensed operators, allowing Americans to lawfully bet online. With the new bill, Frank hopes to raise tens of billions of dollars in extra capital to fund such things as healthcare, education, and additional domestic issues plaguing the U.S. today.

Hopefully with this new law being put into motion, online gamblers can finally breathe a sigh of relief — something that hasn’t been easily attainable in the last few months since the UIGEA was “piggybacked” onto the Safe Port Act. The underhanded move, which was brought forth during the final moments of Congress’s final session of 2006, allowed a bill that had been rejected twice previously on its own to become part of national law. The unimpressive move by Republican Bill Frist has since caused a wave of controversy in the online world, and it’s been a firestorm of debate between politicians and gamblers as of late.

Time will only tell what the Frank’s new bill will get accomplished…but you gotta admit that it’s nice knowing that the “donkeys” in office are finally working with us to save one of America’s most revered games.

‘Operation: High Stakes’ Nets 31 People in HUGE Sports Gambling Ring in Arizona!

April 25, 2007

In a huge sting operation brought upon by Maricopa County authorities in Arizona, 31 people have been arrested for their involvement in a large sports betting ring. 57 warrants total have been sought in the operation, with a whopping $145 million in property, cars, and assets already being seized in the investigation. The bust finally went down earlier this week after a 2-year undercover operation exposed a vast network of illegal sports betting done in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas — where money was being exchanged at local bars and restaurants via bookies and/or loan sharks. Interest rates got as high as 51% for people who couldn’t come up with their debts right away, and threats of violence were common when collection time came around. Authorities are also investigating how much money was being wagered on and collected through online sites based out of Costa Rica. More on the story to come….

PokerOwnage.com Acquired By Independent Ad/Gaming Network! A New Era Begins!

April 6, 2007

PokerOwnage.com has recently been acquired by an independent ad/gaming network. The new site Admin, DNic24 (on the forums), owns MillnicMedia, and has many years of experience in the business. I am proud to say that after weeks of working together with him and his associates, the new transition has been nothing short of smooth and spectacular. He and his company will no doubt bring PO to heights I have only dreamed of since opening the site in 2005. PokerOwnage.com itself will stay the same for now, and I will be working personally with the new admin(s) to ensure that all our original goals for PO are met and followed through with.

What’s great about this is that I will be remaining with the site as Admin, and will continue to work and post as much as possible during this new period of transition. Dan has been nothing but supportive with my requests, and I cannot wait to see what they have in store next for PokerOwnage and its loyal community. To some, this may seem like a sad day — but I can assure you that this change was needed for many reasons. It has been very difficult running the site solo since Wev left to focus on school and work…and needless to say, it’s taken a toll on me personally. I am both relieved and ecstatic that PO can now get back on the fast-track to becoming a greater force in the online poker community, especially with the help of such a dedicated and trustworthy group of associates.

So please — PLEASE — don’t think of this as a goodbye…I know for damn sure that I don’t. This is nothing more but a new beginning for the site…and trust me, you’ll wanna stick around for what PO has in store for you in the future!

Harrahs To Be Sold For $17 Billion. No Word On How It Might Affect The WSOP.

April 6, 2007

Looks like Harrah’s has finally given up on competiting with the newer and ritzier casino properties like the Wynn, Bellagio, and the Venetian. Earlier in the week it was confirmed that the world’s largest casino chain would be selling off their Las Vegas properties — as well as their $10 billion debt — to a private equity firm for $17 billion and change. The deal — most likely be one of the largest buyouts in 2006 — will hopefully not affect the current state of the WSOP, which is owned by Harrah’s. More on this story as it develops.

The NYPD Cracks Down On HUUUUGE Billion Dollar Gambling Ring!

April 6, 2007

As if America hasn’t already taken enough heat for it’s role in online gambling, things just got a bit more saucy down in New York and 4 other states involved! In a huge joint operation coordinated by the NYPD and the FBI, a billion dollar online sportsbook ring was cracked down upon early Tuesday night/Wednesday morning of this week.

The billion-dollar-a-year operation that was busted is the largest ever to be ran on U.S. soil, and even rivals that of most U.S. casino sportsbooks. For more on the story, check out the bottom link to CNNSI.com!

9/11 Passes 5-Year Anniversary…And

April 6, 2007

Yesterday marked the 5th anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks that occurred on our native soil. As we mourned for what America lost that day, I think it’s just as important we celebrate the lives of the thousands that didn’t make it, including the many firefighters and police officers who perished trying to save as many people as they could on that fateful morning…
